Folk Names:
Creeping Root, Stalker Flower, Frothy Iris.
20cm x 15cm
*******************************************************
A friendly flower and gets on well with others. Makes a good winter companion for Winterwort. Comes in a variety of colours but its frothy style edges and centre are nearly always winter white hence the folk name Frothy Iris. It is mostly known for its ability to uproot and follow you around the garden. It is very stealthy and can appear quite creepy. Very attractive to winter garden creatures who rely on its nectar to get through the cold months. Plant in summer for Autumn/Winter flowers. It will move around, so if you do not want it to appear at your patio window at night, stake it down well. It will complain a lot but will get used to it. It has no real scent but it is said that a potion made from its spots renders you invisible, so it is said!
Magical Uses:
If you can catch one and keep it still, its leaves added to a stew makes a great flavour.
**********
Its spots when dried make lovely jam for the winter store cupboard.
